Unfathomableness

I am in awe of God and His unfathomableness. Is that a word? If not, it should be!

At the end of June, I started a summer Bible study by Jen Wilkin entitled "God of Creation." I've studied Genesis several times in depth but as I work through this study, I am learning so much and seeing so many new things and I'm only on Week 2!

During the first week of homework, I woke up at 2:30 AM and couldn't get back to sleep. I was annoyed.

Most of the time when this happens, I just assume it's the Lord and so I get up, head to the Keurig, make my first and most fabulous cup of coffee, settle at my desk, pull out whatever study I am working through, and seek Him. But, on this morning and because I was annoyed, I decided to bypass God. I determined I'd get up, go do some online shopping, and hopefully return to bed after finding the perfect pair of PJ's. Yes, I determined I was going PJ shopping at 2:30 AM.

In the pitch black of night, I exited the bedroom. As I passed through the dining room, my eye was drawn to a top window situated high above our dining table. What I saw was glorious.

As my eye was drawn up and I looked, I stopped. I stood in awe.  My mind was flooded with all  the passages I'd read during the week while doing the "God of Creation" study.

"For by Him all things were created...By the Word of the Lord the heavens were made and by the breath of His mouth their host...Worthy are you, Our Lord and our God to receive glory and honor and power for you created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created."

There I stood looking at the moon. The moon I'd been studying about the day before. The one and only moon ... The Creator did that! I tried to capture it with my phone camera and know I have not done it justice. But, I am sharing with you anyway because I want you to try to imagine the sight and how it impacted me so that it might also impact you!

Oh yes...Worthy are you Lord to receive glory and honor.

There I was walking through the dining room on my way to do online shopping. I was bypassing God that morning. But there He was in all His glory. God cannot be bypassed! He's everywhere, all the time and there is nowhere I can go from His presence. His creation declares His glory and unfathomableness. In those precious, glorious, breathtaking and stop me in my track moments, my mind is blown with it. He is unfathomable. But there He is in all His glory. Always...everywhere.

Annoyed and headed to do online shopping, He caught my eye and attention. He knew I would want to see His glory displayed. For it was in that perfect moment when that glorious display was perfectly framed in that window that He awakened me and drew me there so that I could take in His glory. He wanted me to see it. A few minutes before or a few minutes later and I would not have been able to see what I saw.  Oh God, thank you for waking me and stopping me so that I might see You, even though I wasn't looking for You.

I cannot fathom the God who spoke that moon into existence and keeps it hanging there causing it to rule over the night and the stars. His wisdom is infinite. He knows all things because He created all things. He knows everything! He is all-powerful! He is everywhere. He needs nothing. Yet, He is so loving.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." Ecclesiastes 3:11

Worthy are you Lord to receive glory and honor.

What a precious moment this was in my relationship with my Creator. This is why I love doing Bible studies. I love having a structured way of studying the Bible so that each day I can get into God's Word allowing it to shift my focus off myself and where it should be ... on God who is worthy to receive glory and honor. I am His creation and exist to declare His glory in all that I do and say. I don't know about you, but the only way I can do this is the constant and daily being in the Word of God...that renewing of my mind talked about in Romans 12:1-2. The only way I know to stir up my affection for Christ is to constantly be reminded of who He is, what He's done and just how worthy He is to receive glory and honor. Too many days without those reminders and I forget. When I start forgetting, it doesn't take long for my focus to shift off of Him and back on to me and my circumstances. It can quickly become all about me and not all about Him. Do you know what I mean?

Not only do I need to personally be in God's Word every day so that my mind and heart can be refreshed and renewed and my affections for Jesus stirred but I need others in my life who are doing the same. I need to hear and discuss their insights and how they are being challenged in their thinking. I need others to make me jealous for what they are doing and experiencing with the Lord through their studies and how God is growing them through their situations and circumstances. I need their prayers!

Isn't it amazing that God is everywhere and wants to be found by us?  I don't know where you are today or what you are going through but God has a plan for you and a future and a hope. Yes, I just quoted Jeremiah 29:11. But do you want to know what that plan and the future and hope is that He has for you? It's right there in black and white in the verses that follow but here you go: That you would call upon Him, go to Him, pray and seek Him. The outcome? He says He will listen and you will find Him when you search for Him with all of your heart. #wow

"For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD." Jeremiah 29:11-14(a)

Worthy are you Lord to receive glory and honor.
